Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks Holds More Than Just Water
One of the most gorgeous lakes in Missouri has a hidden secret that will blow your mind.
I’m not a big lake person—heck, I've only been to the Lake of the Ozarks once in my life—but a fascinating fact caught my interest when I was learning more about the lake. Many Missourians and visitors flock there, too.
Sunken Hidden Small Town
Did you know that the Lake of the Ozarks has a sunken, hidden town at the bottom of the lake? See, I told you — mind blown! According to A-Z Animals, the town was known as Linn Creek and was established in 1841.

Once a thriving town, residents became angry when they were told their town was to be flooded to make way for the new lake.

In just two years, the buildings were knocked down or burnt, except for the town’s old cemetery.
By the 1920s, the entire town was completely submerged under water to make way for the artificial lake we all know now as the Lake of the Ozarks.
Other Hidden Secrets of the Lake of the Ozarks
Here’s another reason you’ll never catch me swimming in the lake: scientists have discovered piranhas living in the water — yep, piranhas! On top of that, the massive Missouri lake is home to over 70,000 docks. It’s also nicknamed “The Magic Dragon” and “The Missouri Dragon” because of its winding, dragon-like shape.
