August 9 - The Loraine Lion Fish Fry will take place on Friday August 9th starting at 4:30 pm at the Loraine Firehouse. Starting at dusk, there will be a movie in the park. This is a free will donation.
August 10 - The Lions Festival in the Park will take place on Saturday August 10 starting at 9 am in Loraine, IL. There will be a sand volleyball co-ed tournament, a garden tractor pull, corn hole tournament, a kids obstacle course, free kids games, a BBQ cook-off and much more. A concession stand and kids bounce houses will be open all day. See a Loraine Lions Club member for more details.
August 10 - The Hot Pursuit 5K is August 10th starting at 8 am. Registration is just $30 and includes a t-shirt and a finisher medal. You can also purchase addition items the day of the event. The race will take place at Moorman Park in Quincy. All proceeds will go towards The Quincy Police Benevolent and Protective Association Unit 12.
August 14 - The Hannibal LIONS Club will be holding their annual fundraiser on Wednesday, August 14th at Central Park (Broadway at 4th and 5th in Hannibal). The Pork Steak Barbecue is open to the public, and carry-out will be available. There will be both a Noon meal served from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, and Evening meal served from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Each meal ticket is $8. In case of rain, the event will move to the Y Men’s Pavilion at 1st and Hill Streets. All proceeds from the fundraiser go to help people in our community with eyeglasses, eye exams and other eye related health issues.
August 15 - Meals on Wheels is holding a Cook’s Night Off event on the third Thursday of the month throughout 2019. It’s a fundraiser for the Meals on Wheels program as they offer eat-in, carry-out, or drive thru meals for just $7 each. All meals include either Fried Chicken or Roast Beef, two side dishes, bread and dessert. The hours for each 3rd Thursday of each month are 4 to 6 pm at the Senior Center at 639 York Street.
August 17 - The 14th Annual Hull of a Race is on Saturday August 17th in Down Town Park in Hull, Illinois. The Adult run will start at 8 AM and the kids fun run will kick off at 7:45 AM. Register on the day of the race at 7 AM, or get more information at hullofrace.com/ All proceeds collected go to Parkinson’s Research.
August 23 - Superheroes for Kids Trivia Night Everyone is welcome to unite for the annual Trivia Night benefiting The Child Center, Inc. as they “fight villains and seek justice for children”. The evening will be action-packed and full of Superhero fun. $160 for a table of 8 or $20 per person. Includes: Draft Beer & Soda. Outside food is allowed. Prizes awarded to the top two teams and best team theme.
September 7 - The next “Behind The Mask” event will be held Saturday 9/7/19 at the barn of Michael Bayles and Kathy Goltz from 6 to10 pm. Barn on the Bluff is located at 7425 N. 12th St. This year’s theme is A Night In The Delta. A southern style BBQ, a newly formed Quincy community gospel choir, Live Auction, Bourbon Pull and a blue grass band from Columbia, Missouri will be performing. The cost is $60 per person with all proceeds go to the Adams County Suicide Prevention Coalition. The stats are staggering with the number of suicides in Adams County alone and this event will help get the word and information out on suicide, how to help someone and how to help people who are struggling with the loss of a loved one.
September 14 - Join Quincy’s Walk to End Alzheimer's Saturday, September 14 at Moorman Park starting at 8:30 am. Hundreds of Quincy residents will join the fight to end Alzheimer’s disease at the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The funds raised support the care, support and research program
