If you're like me and need to see the bottom of the water in which you are swimming, well you're in luck. One lake in Missouri is one of the best for crystal-clear waters.

Wakonda State Park in LaGrange, Missouri offers several different activities besides swimming. It offers hiking trails, camping, kayaking (rentals available), and a beach for building all those sand castles. Only in Your State even names this state park,

one of the best all-around parks in MO.

You wouldn't think a small park like this would get so much recognition, but Wakonda is the perfect place to get away without traveling a thousand miles to get to that perfect spot.

The clear water of Wakonda State Park's six lakes attract thousands of migratory waterfowl each year, making the park a bird lover’s paradise.

As a kid, I would visit Wakonda all the time, but with the crazy busy life I have it's been a while since I've been. Even though it's only 25 minutes away. It's such a fun place to take the kids for the day and just 20 minutes away from where I live. Get out this summer and head to this state park in Missouri, you won't be disappointed and you will be swimming in one of the clearest lakes in the Show-Me State.

LOOK: Here are the best lake towns to live in

Many of the included towns jump out at the casual observer as popular summer-rental spots--the Ozarks' Branson, Missouri, or Arizona's Lake Havasu--it might surprise you to dive deeper into some quality-of-life offerings beyond the beach and vacation homes. You'll likely pick up some knowledge from a wide range of Americana: one of the last remaining 1950s-style drive-ins in the Midwest; a Florida town that started as a Civil War veteran retirement area; an island boasting some of the country's top public schools and wealth-earners right in the middle of a lake between Seattle and Bellevue; and even a California town containing much more than Johnny Cash's prison blues.
