Anyone with a membership to Sam's Club knows that before you leave they have to get your receipt scanned and a few items by a Sam's employee. Well, that's all about to change. According to Business Insider, the warehouse giant is going to an AI scan system.

Why?

To make it faster for customers to leave the store without stopping to get their items checked.

"Eliminating even the few seconds it takes to scan a receipt at the exit door is well worth it,"

In repla\ce of an employee scanning receipts, a new tech-savvy machine will scan items as customers leave the store. Customers will walk through a gateway and scan items as they pass.

The gateway is equipped with cameras and sensors that capture images of the shopper's cart, recognize individual items, and verify the purchase — all in real time.

All Sam's Clubs will be equipped with this new technology by the end of 2024. I have to say, when we shop at Sam's Club we use our app to pay, and to have someone check our items takes no time at all. Now, on busy days it does get backed up a little bit (weekends are the worst sometimes), but even at that, the line is constantly moving.

It will be interesting to see how this works and how efficient it really is.
