Most Common Last Names in Adams County
If you’ve lived in Adams County for more than 20 minutes, chances are you’ve run into at least SOMEONE on this list.
The website forebears.io has calculated the most common last names in counties all across the country. Somewhat unsurprisingly, “Smith” is the most common name in our region (as it is nationwide as well). Similarly, “Peters” is the most common name unique to Adams County, coming in fifth overall yet not cracking the top 100 nationwide.
Admittedly, this list was only meant to be 20 names long. But even our top 20 is occupied mostly by the common names nationwide (Smith, Miller, Johnson, etc.). It isn’t until you reach the 20s and 30s that the real “local” sounding names start popping up (Steinkamp, Obert, Terwelp, Doellman, etc.). And just like that, the top 20 turned into a top 100.
NOTE: Names appearing only on the Adams County list and NOT on the nationwide list are listed in RED.
