The numbers are starting to trickle in for the first weekend of firearm season in the Land of Lincoln and there are many counties that have already harvested over 1,000 deer, but who is in the lead so far...?
It was one of the strongest twisters in Adams County, Illinois history and it happened in an era where there were no tornado sirens or early warning systems. It was a terrifying EF-3 tornado that touched down in May of 1878. By the time it dissipated, 1 person was dead and 50 cows were also killed.
I grew up in the Hannibal/Quincy area and tend to be a weather nerd, but have never heard of this historic storm. It was the most devastating tornado in northeast Missouri history and it claimed 14 lives back in March of 1876.
There is a real good chance that Adams County hit its peak in the 1980's and we may never see it surpass that peak again, or at least that's what the numbers are showing.
