'Wing Dynasty' is the theme for the 2014 edition of the Hannibal Jaycees Wing Ding.

If you think you can cook up the Tri-States’ tastiest wings, then sign up a team to participate in the 10th Annual Wing Ding on Saturday, January 25. The event is presented by the Hannibal Jaycees and Miller Lite. Prove that your secret sauce or spices are the best and you’ll take home a cool $1000.

The Wing Ding will be held at the Admiral Coontz Armory in downtown Hannibal. Doors will open to the public at 11a.m. Wings will be served at 1 p.m. and judging will take place at 4 p.m. First place will be awarded $1000; second place, $500; and third place, $250. This year’s theme, 'Wing Dynasty,' is named after the popular television show 'Duck Dynasty.' Teams are encouraged to show up in all their camouflaged and bearded glory, and to decorate their booths accordingly. The best-decorated booth will be awarded a cash prize of $100.

The Hannibal Jaycees will provide the chicken wings for all contestants. Commercial fryers and oil are available upon request for any teams that will be using non-battered wings. Teams can sauce, season, rub or BBQ their wings. Each team must have at least one member on-hand to assist with the cooking. Teams are allowed to bring their own grill, fryer or smoker if they notify the Jaycees in advance. All cooking will take place outside under the overpass.

The Wing Ding is a smoke-free, adults-only event and absolutely no one under age 21 will be admitted. There will be games and activities throughout the day and the Hannibal Jaycees will sell pretzels, water, soda and adult beverages. A portion of the proceeds from this year’s Wing Ding will go to a local charity. Cans recycled from the event will benefit the Great River Honor Flight, a program that provides no-cost flights to local military veterans to visit war memorials in Washington, DC.

Complete rules and entry forms are available online. You may also get an entry form by calling Jamie McCoy at 573-999-5073 or Jenny Pabst at 573-795-6577.

Entries must be submitted by noon on Friday, January 24. The entry fee is $100 per team of up to 5 people. Teams that sign up by December 31 will receive a $25 early-bird discount.
