Following their season opening setback at home last week versus a very good Helias Crusaders team the Hannibal football Pirates set sail for St. Peters this week against the Lutheran High Cougars.

The Pirates should bounce back in a big way versus Lutheran High this week. The Class 2 Cougars have had success in recent years, winning the Class 2 state championship in 2021, but lost the last 4 games of last season and got blown out last week against Cahokia, Il. 50-0.

Look for the Pirates to set the tone on offense running the ball with their talented backfield. Ball control and clock control will go a long way towards the Pirates pillaging the Cougars of Lutheran High this week.

Defensively the Pirates will want to keep Lutheran off the scoreboard. Is a shutout too much to ask? Maybe. But if the offense is as dominant as they can be with Mike Ferreira and Waylon Anders leading the way the defense could manage a shutout (and maybe even score….!!!), you gotta have goals.

The Cougars will want to get off to a quick start to cleanse themselves of that Comanche smack down from last week. Cahokia held Lutheran to negative 22 yards of offense last week. Yes minus 22.

The Pirates should ransack, plunder and unearth the buried treasure of a first win of the season Friday night!
