Some sad news from the St. Louis Zoo today. A beloved 17-year-old African Lion has died.

The St. Louis Zoo reported about the death earlier this afternoon saying Ingozi suffered from liver and spinal diseases and was humanely euthanized last Friday, November 15th. Known for his impressive roar and majestic mane, Ingozi was loved by all who took care of him in his life.

He was an attentive mate to Cabara and enjoyed staying by her side. Guests could often see him lying in the sun and resting on the raised platform in the habitat.

Coming from the San Diego Zoo in 2007, Ingozi called the St. Louis Zoo his home for many wonderful years. His life mate, Cabara, will spend the rest of her golden years at the zoo in Big Cat Country.

Big Cat Country is a must-stop when my family and I visit the zoo, and if you take a train ride throughout the zoo one of the stops is right by the tiger and lion area of Big Cat Country.
