I’m not a big fan of swimming in places where I can’t see the bottom, lakes, ponds, and rivers, especially, but the newly named best swimming hole in Missouri does look like a fun place to visit.

Why Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park Is So Popular

If you enjoy swimming in natural water spots, one of the best swimming holes in the country is right here in the Show-Me State.  Travel + Leisure recently put together a list of the best swimming holes in America and named Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park one of the best in the nation.

Located in Middle Brook, Missouri, the state park offers much more than swimming. Visitors can also hike, fish, camp, and enjoy several other outdoor activities.

Would You Swim In Natural Water?

I had heard of the park before, but never the swimming hole itself. While it does look beautiful, I still can’t quite get past the idea of not being able to see the bottom of the water, or knowing what might be swimming around down there, like snakes, fish, and other creatures.

Other Great Swimming Spots In Missouri

There are definitely some amazing and stunning places to visit in Missouri if you enjoy swimming in natural water instead of chlorine pools, including:

  • Moonshine Beach near Table Rock Lake in Branson
  • Public Beach at Truman State Park near Warsaw
  • Indian Creek Beach near Perry, Missouri
  • Public Beach in Kirksville
  • Stephens Lake Beach in Columbia

As beautiful as these places are, I think I’ll stick to swimming pools.
