The need for blood doesn’t get a snow day.

According to officials with the American Red Cross, the dangerous winter weather across the nation this week has resulted in the cancellation of blood drives in about 30 states, causing more than 15,000 donations to go uncollected.

Officials say that while donors are stuck at home, thousands of patients a day are still counting on blood donations.

Locally, there are two opportunities to give blood Thursday in Quincy, at the Red Cross office on North 23rd Street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at the Stoney Creek Inn from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Next week, there are blood drives scheduled in Monroe City, Bethel, Mt. Sterling, Shelbina and Hannibal.
