WalletHub has released a new list called 2023's Best & Worst States for Health Care, and the Land of Lincoln is not high on the list...Illinois ranks 36th on the list, well behind Missouri at 26th, Indiana at 24th, Wisconsin at 19th, and Iowa which ranks 2nd on the list. How did WalletHub rank the states? On the site they say...

"The average American spends $12,914 per year on personal health care...Conditions aren’t uniform across the U.S., though. To determine where Americans receive the best and worst health care, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 44 measures of cost, accessibility and outcome."

Illinois ranks 32nd on the list in two of the big three categories, Outcomes, and Access. Where Illinois really struggles is in the Cost category, Illinois ranks 42nd in the cost category. The cost category is comprised of things like the Cost of a Medical Visit, the Cost of a Dental Visit, and Average Monthly Out-of-Pocket Medical Spending. We know that health care is expensive, and it is painful knowing that something expensive is even more expensive in the Land of Lincoln. I would also add, why is Illinois ranked 32nd in access to health care? That seems like a concerning ranking for the people of Illinois.
