I know, I know... It's spooky season! But for me, that just means we're getting closer to the happiest time of the year. And it gets even better! After a nationwide contest, Hallmark has named its Merriest Christmas Town, and it just so happens to be right here in Illinois.

What Makes Carlinville, Illinois, So Festive?

Welcome to Carlinville, Illinois, Hallmark's Merriest Christmas Town of 2026. After narrowing the competition to the top 25 towns, Hallmark invited the public to vote for the community it would crown this year's champion.

Carlinville won over voters with its historic downtown square, which is home to Santa's House, the annual Christmas in Carlinville Market, and plenty of holiday magic. The entire town comes together for the festivities and decorations, making it feel like Illinois' very own Whoville.

A Hallmark Christmas Movie Is Coming to Carlinville

But the bragging rights aren't the only prize. Carlinville will also serve as the setting for one of Hallmark's upcoming Christmas movies, which will be filmed throughout the town. Now, that is a pretty cool holiday gift.

Best of all, Carlinville is just over two hours from Quincy, making it an easy road trip for anyone looking to experience Hallmark's Merriest Christmas Town of 2026.
