Missouri is the 15th most overweight and obese state in the United States in 2023 according to a new ranking from Wallethub.com. On the site they say...

"To determine where obesity and overweight most dangerously persist, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 31 key metrics. Our data set ranges from the share of obese and overweight population to sugary-beverage consumption among adolescents to obesity-related health care costs."

According to their rankings, Missouri is 12th in the country for Overweight and Obesity Prevalence, 23rd for Health Consequences (relating to being overweight and obese), and 17th for Food and Fitness.

Which state is the most overweight and obese? Well, West Virginia comes in at number 1 followed by Mississippi, and Kentucky. And for our listeners and readers on the Illinois side of the river, Illinois finds itself at 23rd overall on this list. I feel like this list directly correlated with states that are struggling financially too. Having the resources in schools to feed kids healthy meals, and make sure they are being educated on how to make healthy decisions I would imagine playing a significant factor in determining long-term health for kids as they grow up. Does it surprise you that Missouri is 15th? Did you expect them to be higher or lower?
