What Summer Events and Activities Are You Looking Forward To?
I think I've written two or three different stories over the past several weeks that have all started with "now that winter seems to be over..." only for winter to not be over, and for another round of snow to drop down on us (April 14? Really?). I'm hoping, though, that winter finally is over and we can put away sweaters and coats, and more regularly wear shorts and sandals. What summer activities are you most looking forward to in 2014?
Just a few of the summer events that I'm excited about:
Midsummer Arts Faire
The Midsummer Arts Faire is a great family event that takes place in Washington Park. It is a three-day juried fine arts exhibit and sale, featuring over 50 artists who have been selected to display their creations. 2014 is the 11th year for the Arts Faire, which will be June 27 - 29. The Midsummer Arts Faire has a terrific kids area, which will keep your children entertained and might even teach them something about how different kinds of artwork are made.
National Tom Sawyer Days
The biggest annual event in Hannibal. This year we're looking forward to welcoming country music star Josh Thompson to Tanyard Gardens during National Tom Sawyer Days! The national fence painting contest, frog jump contest, carnival, arts and crafts, fireworks and the naming of the new Tom & Becky ambassadors are a few more of the important components to this annual festival in America's Hometown.
County Fairs
What's not to like about the county fairs? Whether you're there for the rides, the entertainment, the exhibitions or the food, there's a reason that these events are such long-standing summertime traditions. Entertainment and fair details have not yet been announced for all of our area fairs, but we do know that The Adams County Fair will be July 23 - 29, the Pike County, Mo. Fair will be July 22 - 26, and the Western Illinois Fair will be June 25 - 29.
