Thanksgiving Countdown! Illinois Loves Sage Stuffing
You can certainly make the argument that the Thanksgiving meal is THE meal of the year. Traditionally this smorgasbord of savory eats includes some type of stuffing (or dressing if you Thanksgiving-ed in the south).
Stuffing can be dressed up in many ways (see what I did there Grandma?) featuring flavors from the various regions of the USA.
In the south cornbread stuffing rules. Sausage stuffing has its hot spots across the country, as does oyster stuffing. In Minnesota they employ rice into the stuffing. Indiana leans into cranberries being included into stuffing. Pennsylvania likes to include add raisins into their recipe. In Washington state it’s apples (of course). Fruit accents are not unheard of within stuffing recipes here and there.
In Illinois we like to keep it traditional with Sage stuffing. Even that, though could introduce onions or sausage as a highlight.
Whether you prefer sausage, cornbread, sage or assorted fruits in your stuffing, find a mix that will stand out at your Thanksgiving table and compliment the turkey and other side dishes. The goal, deliciousness primarily, but also to have family and friends wanting your recipe. Share. Thanksgiving is about togetherness and bringing something familially personal and unique.
