We knew that there was a chance that Illinois could see some thunderstorms this weekend, but now the Storm Prediction Center has the state definitely in the path of what could be severe storms.
We now have a better idea of what the incoming winter storms will do to Missouri this week and it's not good news for those who don't enjoy spending time with their snow shovels as parts of the state will see a dump of up to 10 inches of snow by midweek.
Missouri has had a very nice respite from bitterly cold temperatures and it looks like it will stay that way for awhile. But, an upcoming split of a polar airmass will almost certainly mean that cold is about to return to Missouri with a vengeance.
It feels unusual to see a storm system consisting of thunderstorm with no snow setting its sights on Missouri at the end of January, but that is exactly the scenario that's developing as we get ready to wrap up the first month of the year.
