Switch it up with a Missouri Smash Burger Taco for the 4th
There will be lots of grilling this weekend. Hamburgers, hotdogs, kebabs, chicken, steaks, ears of corn and more. But with the popularity of smash burgers these days why not smash that burger into a taco?
This is an easier process than you think
There are lots of directions you can go with this idea. Your standard Midwest burger with smashed with American cheese and then your go to classic toppings; onions, pickles, tomatoes, lettuce ketchup and/or mustard. The thing about smashing this into a taco is that your toppings should be diced, or in the case of lettuce shredded.
All the things - at the ready
Variants are when this gets fun. Switch up the type of cheese and sauces, like mozzarella or asiago with marinara or pomodoro sauce for an Italian twist. Lean into the Southwestern flavors with Oaxaca or Manchego cheese with salsa or verde sauce. Or maybe guacamole and jalapenos.
Keep it in the USA with a Missouri BBQ flair by using cheddar or gouda along with your flavor of BBQ sauce (KC style, Carolina or Memphis). You could even flex Hawaiian with diced pineapple, Swiss cheese and Huli Huli sauce. If you can’t find the Huli Huli you could use a light sweet and tangy BBQ sauce to compliment the meat, cheese and pineapple. Give it the flavor of Illinois with Italian beef with provelone and giardiniera!
You can make your smash burgers on a flat top and transfer to a tortilla for the toppings. Or, you can include the tortilla into the smashing process and make them a little crispy and fried.

You may just find you have a hit on your hands with smash burger tacos this summer. Be creative and cook flavorfully for your crew.
