
From Cannabis to Psychedelics: Missouri’s Next Big Debate
The state of Missouri is still trying to find its way when it comes to managing legal marijuana. That includes regulatory issues with certain edibles or hemp products, or even tax stacking in Missouri cities and counties. While the Show-Me state is working through the legal marijuana process, some are looking to the next step. Psychedelics.
The push for legalized psychedelic medications in Missouri is underway
Proponents already have a political action committee in place and a conference on legalizing psychedelics taking place in Springfield, Mo. this weekend (9/6/25) with potentially more gatherings in St. Louis and Kansas City later this fall.

The goal of Psychedelic Missouri is to create access to psychedelics legally for Missouri residents. That goal is broad. But, like marijuana initially, the argument is legal access for medical use. There are veterans and first responder groups that are lining up with Psychedelic Missouri to help move the issue forward.

Psilocybin and LSD have been used in the past to treat anxiety and depression and are being considered again along with MDMA, ayahuasca and ketamine as tools to battle post-traumatic stress and other mental conditions. There are states that have already legalized psychedelics, including Colorado and Oregon. Many states are in the process of research on psychedelics for medicinal purposes, or already have legislation drafted and under review.
