Retro Games get Fired Up in Missouri

The video gaming industry today is far different than it was at its outset. Those who love old arcade games, old video game consoles and the games you played on them, circle up with like-minded button mashers in Columbia, Mo. for the Retro Game Convention.

Pong. That was the first at home game console and game I played. Paddles, not a joystick (that would come later) and I think there was also a gun for a shooting game that was included. This was back in the 70’s.

We never imagined college e-sports teams when we were in the arcades

Pong in the living room gave way to arcades brimming with activity, bright lights, midi music and sfx. Which in turn pulled us back to the family room when the home consoles kept evolving from the 80’s into the 90s. Atari 2600, NES, Nintendo 64, Sega, PlayStation and XBOX not to mention the hand-held games.

Saturday April 19^th in Columbia, Mo. the Retro Game Convention gets underway at 10am. With Smash Bros Ultimate and Tetris tournaments, a free play arcade area, and a couple of panels on retro gaming.

The Northeast Event Center in Columbia is hosting the convention this year. Located north of I-70 off of North Oakland Gravel Road on the Boone County Fairgrounds.
