Chase’s Cherry Mash Bar -- This gem has been made for over a century in St. Joseph, Mo. with chocolate, chopped nuts and cherry filling. How did I miss this one? A must find.

Russell Stover’s chocolateAlways thought of this as higher end candy. Seemed like a special treat. Then I moved to a Missouri town near Kansas City with a Russell Stover’s outlet store. Their chocolate was ubiquitous, until the outlet shuttered. After the store was closed we missed the continual flow of their chocolate at almost every event.

Sunmark’s Pixy Stix, Spree, Sweet Tarts – If you grew up around St. Louis, every Halloween, every Easter, every kid’s birthday party you’d get some version of Sweet Tarts and/or Pixy Stix. The most hardcore Pixy Stix kids would dump the flavored sugar into their mouth and use the little tube as a straw for their soda or juice. Spree became a solid convenience store pick to be passed to friends at school. Just 1 Spree could power a kid through Pre-Algebra.

Switzer’s LicoriceThere was a time that I confused Switzer’s and Twizzlers. Perhaps it was the common Z’s. Maybe it was the similar style of lettering on the package. Either way I had plenty of both, never realizing that Switzer’s licorice was made in St. Louis.
