The Oldest School in Illinois Opened When Buchanan Was President
For over 160 years this Illinois School has been open and is known as the oldest school in Illinois.
Peoria High School was opened in 1856 when the 15th President of the United States, James Buchanan was in office. Since then, the school has become one of the state's finest public high schools according to Moms Who Think.
Arguably the state's finest public high school holding up as a role model when it comes to educational excellence. It is located in Peoria's bustling heart, known for vibrant cultures and historical significance since its inception.
What seems to make this school stand out, besides being the oldest, is that it prioritizes involving its students with the community beyond academics and sports.
Peoria High School's commitment to winning communities over by fostering strong academics alongside social responsibility, not forgetting character-building, continues to pay remarkable dividends even today.
Quincy Senior High School
Not too far behind Peoria High School is Quincy Senior High School, which opened in 1864. The school's many traditions (the Blue Devil running out before basketball games, the band taking the field during halftime, and more) make me a bit jealous that I didn't attend the school.
