An app called “Too Good To Go” has gone live in the Kansas City area in an effort to reduce food waste.

The app shows where excess food is being sold at the end of a business’ day. Restaurants regularly have food left over at closing time. Instead of throwing it away, if the restaurant is part of the program, that food is bagged up and sold at a very low price. Allowing people to get restaurant quality food inexpensively.

When you download the app you’ll be notified of affiliated restaurants, bakeries, shops that also serve food who have “surprise bags” with leftover food from the day. Using the app, those businesses will list that they have unsold food that will be available. You can claim it on the app and arrange a pick up time with the business.

Your preferences can be loaded into the app to only show you specific restaurants, cafes, bakeries that have unsold food available.
