2 Missouri Main Streets Named Among the Best Walkable in America
Since the weather has finally cooled down from a blazing 1,000 degrees, you might notice more and more people out and about taking walks. And we’re in luck, because two places in Missouri have been named among the best walkable main streets in the nation.
St. Charles: A Step Back in Time
One of those spots is St. Charles, Missouri, which really isn’t a surprise. Downtown St. Charles feels like stepping back in time, with its brick sidewalks and streets, historic buildings, and charming shops and boutiques. Honestly, I’m surprised it didn’t rank higher on the list from Assisted Living Magazine.
St. Charles still made the top 20, landing at number 19. With all the history and landmarks tied to the area, it feels like it deserves an even higher spot. The other main street to make the list is in Boonville, though I’ve personally never been there.

Where’s Hannibal on the List?
What surprised me was that Hannibal didn’t make the list at all. Out of 100 places, there’s no mention of “America’s Hometown” and the rich historic significance it carries. Those of us who live here already know how amazing downtown Hannibal is, but it’s always nice to see that kind of recognition on a national level.
Other Missouri Towns Worth Visiting
Other popular main streets that are both walkable and gorgeous—and definitely worth a visit if you ever get the chance- include Cape Girardeau, Sainte Genevieve, Parkville, Hermann, and Lexington.
