Two Missouri Researchers on Quest to Confirm Lost Amazon City
We’ve seen the movies and we’ve read the books. Archaeologists plot course for uncharted areas of the Amazon region to find a lost city. Is it for legacy, gold, or some other reason? Two archaeologists from Missouri State University are now on this path.
Dr. Daniel Pierce and Chris Bodine of the Terra Incognita Research Institute have mapped a course deep into the Amazon region in search of a lost city that they believe they have already found (in theory).

The duo says they used Lidar over a swath of deep forested Brazil and believe they discovered a city heretofore unknown, with roads, buildings, geometric designs and trails. Lidar penetrates dense tree cover, revealing the surface below. This would include man made structures and infrastructure, even after they've disappeared. The Lidar can see the purposeful outline of that altered (or previously altered) natural surface.
Amazon adventurers have set out to find lost cities for a long time. Many never return
History is replete with explorers, researchers, archaeologists and scientists who became lost in the Amazon jungle looking for lost civilizations. The original explorers, and also those sent to find them when they originally got lost.
The historic path into the Amazon to locate history is well traveled and also - lost
Starting 100 years ago, in 1925 Percy Fawcett, along with his son and his son’s friend disappeared into the Amazon jungle looking for the lost city of Z. More than 100 have gone missing in the Amazon in search of history and were never seen again. Will 21st century tech allow these two from Missouri State to confirm their find and make it back alive? Stay tuned.
