If you have little ones, there will come a time when they’re grown and Christmas gifts start to look a bit different. My family is in that stage now; instead of buying things, we’re searching for experiences and adventures. Luckily, there are a few Missouri towns where those adventures turn into unforgettable, family-friendly holiday fun.

St. Charles: Victorian Charm and Family-Friendly Traditions

St. Charles is one of those towns. Known for its old-fashioned, walkable Christmas charm, it’s like stepping back in time. The town hosts several traditional festivals from November through December, including the Christmas Carol Stroll, featuring scenes and characters from A Christmas Carol, and a Santa Parade held weekly down Main Street.

Branson: Lights, Shows and Big Holiday Experiences

When talking about Christmas towns, you can’t leave out Branson. Not only does it feature Silver Dollar City’s An Old Time Christmas, one of the largest and most award-winning holiday festivals in the country, but also the Polar Express Train Ride through the Ozark Mountains and countless Christmas shows throughout the city. I haven’t been to Branson during the holidays yet, but it’s definitely on my bucket list.

Other great options include Hermann, Kansas City (where you can take in Hallmark Channel’s holiday celebrations), and St. Louis, which hosts festive pop-ups and celebrations all month long.
