There's no need to panic. Really. Yes, the upcoming total solar eclipse that will cross much of Missouri is historic, but there's a very practical reason why many in the state are suddenly stockpiling food supplies before it happens.

I must admit that I was a little surprised to see these warnings about collecting a lot of food items before the total solar eclipse in April by state agencies like Texas. Fox 8 says it's happening in Ohio, too.

Happy Preppers (are they really happy, I ask) says that this stockpiling of food before the April 8 total solar eclipse needs to happen (and is happening) in Missouri, too. But, why?

Southern Missouri and Illinois are about to see a humongous influx of travelers who are coming to both states where the eclipse will reach totality and there is an expectation that these visitors will cause food supplies to dwindle for around a week. It could become very difficult to find basic necessities a few days prior and a few days after the total solar eclipse makes its way across Missouri.

No, this is not a group of people believing the world is about to end (although admittedly it could). This is a practical warning that hundreds of thousands will soon be invading much of Missouri and Illinois and consuming all of the food and stuff. It really shouldn't be a surprise that every day food and household items might become harder to find if not impossible.

I'm not saying that you need to buy 30 gallon barrels of dried rice. But, it wouldn't be a bad idea to double up on loaves of bread, peanut butter and maybe even some jugs of water in case stores get depleted.

This is one prepping exercise that is likely a good idea even if you don't expect doomsday any time soon.
