It’s About to Get Way More Expensive to Drive a Truck in Illinois
Why does it seem that when there are new costs to pay it always seems to fall on truck drivers first? That's the situation again in Illinois as it appears that the cost of being a truck driver is about to see a major increase thanks to new legislation.
If you thought paying the tolls crossing Illinois in a truck were a hassle before, wait until you see what the Illinois House has just done
I saw CDL Life just share the word that the Illinois House had passed Senate Bill 2111. I tried reading and understanding the details of the bill, but it's obviously been written by rich lawyers/politicians that is meant to be above the mental ability of someone like me to understand. Thankfully, the truck drivers at CDL Life simplified it for me and said simply "tolls on commercial vehicles shall be increased by 30% effective on January 1, 2027". Ouch. Oh, and it gets better worse. Those increases will then happen every other year afterward.
To be fair, there is a method to the Illinois House madness. The estimated $1 billion dollars raised is meant to fund improvements on roads and highways across the state of Illinois. Still, I have to wonder how many trucking companies in Illinois that were already struggling will be able to deal with yet another cost increase. I can't imagine that many of them will be pleased by this incoming new toll bump.
