With hot and humid weather in the weekend forecast, we don't blame you if you hit the pool and work on your tan. However, if you don't want to swim, there are several fun events going on this weekend.

Tonight kicks off the 20th season of Blues in the District. Grab your lawn chairs, a blanket, dinner, and of course your favorite beverage and come on out and enjoy the sounds of blues music. Hurricane Ruth will be playing tonight at Washington Park from 5:30 - 9:30.

On Saturday, make plans to attend the Brew Skies Music Festival in Hannibal. From 10 AM to 11 PM enjoy music, the 4th annual home brews competition, and the Volkswagen meet-up. The festival is located at the Mark Twain Cave Campground, and tickets can be purchased at hannibalbrews.com.

Also in Hannibal this weekend is the Ride Cool event. Kids can bring their bikes, scooters, roller skates. and anything else that has wheels. Located on the campus of Hannibal Clinic Health Services from 10 AM – 1 PM, children ages 3 to 12 will get fitted for a free helmet for the summer. Children will also get a t-shirt and the opportunity to try out the obstacle course. Other highlights include helmet fittings, bicycle inspections, giveaways, and the very popular (and informative) egg drop demonstration by Dr. Justin Bubolz, which colorfully illustrates the importance of wearing your helmet.

Meanwhile, back in Quincy, the Quincy Breakfast Optimist Club is having their 11th Annual Soap Box Derby race. There will be more than fifty racers in each class this year. And make sure you cheer on Jacob Collins from LaGrange, Missouri who is taking the wheel of our very own Y101 Soap Box Derby Car. Admission is free.

Also on Saturday, stop by Lincoln in the District. Meet the 16th president himself--or a guy that looks a lot like him anyway--listen to music of that era, take a carriage ride, and even check out a REALLY old school baseball game.

Whatever you decide to do this weekend have fun and stay safe!!!
