Illinois Food Challenge Question: Is There Too Much of a Good Thing?
If you’re always on the lookout for a solid eating challenge, especially for a friend who can put big meals away with ease, this may be one to try in Illinois.”
Little bitty town - Huge plate of food mocking you.
Tony’s Butt Shack in Hollowayville, Illinois is balanced nicely between the Illinois River and I-80. Not unlike the balance of the huge 7 pound tray full of sweet meats and sides called the Butt Buster BBQ Challenge, that will simultaneously make you feel small and wildly hungry.

The tray is weighed down with 8 St. Louis style barbecue ribs, a full pound of smoked beef brisket, an additional pound of pulled pork, backed up with a pound of mac & cheese and another pound of fried potato salad (?!?). Plus, there’s a smoked meatloaf sandwich with two thick slices of Texas toast, and a couple cornbread muffins for garnish. Yes, you have to eat those too.
Can all that food fit in your belly?
This glorious load of deliciousness will cost you $59 when you order it. But, that’s basically a bet on your appetite. Should you complete the challenge within the 45-minute time limit and you’ll get the meal comped, along with a commemorative T-shirt and an honored spot on Tony’s wall of fame.
Barbecue is a wonderful thing. Are several pounds of it in under 45 minutes too much? That problematic question will also be put to the test once you tuck that napkin under your chin and the clock starts.
