Flag Status Being Voted on Now by Illinois Residents
Voting has begun on whether or not the state of Illinois should retire its current flag and adopt a new flag, and which flag should that be.
The Illinois flag Commission opened submissions last fall and reduced the new competitors from almost five thousand down to ten. Public voting will take place now through February 14th.
Included in the voting choices are the current flag, the centennial flag and the sesquicentennial flag.
Voting is happening online from the Illinois Flag Commission web page. You can vote every day. So, if you can’t make up your mind, you can vote fort different flags on different days. Or- Illinois style you can vote for the same design over and over and over again. (I kid! I kid!...It’s an Illinois joke. iykyk)
Interestingly with each submission on the voting page you have the included explanation of the design from the designer and a brief background on them (if they included that).
After the vote the Illinois flag commission will share the results with the Illinois General Assembly who will decide whether the topic of replacing the state flag should move forward.
