WalletHub just released a ranking of 2023's Drug Use By State and Missouri is the 6th worst problem area for drugs in the country. The only places in the US, according to this data, that have a worse drug problem than Missouri are New Mexico, West Virginia, the District of Columbia, Louisianna, and Colorado. Why is Missouri so high on this list? On the site they say...

"Given the uncertain future and lack of significant progress to date, it’s fair to wonder where drug abuse is most pronounced and which areas are most at risk. This report attempts to answer those questions by comparing the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 20 key metrics, ranging from arrest and overdose rates to opioid prescriptions and employee drug testing laws."

Missouri ranks 21st in the Drug Use and Addiction category, and 9th in the Drug Health Issues and Rehab category, so why is it 6th on the list? Well, Missouri ranks 6th in the Law Enforcement category which is comprised of things like drug arrests per capita, drug arrests on college campuses, maternity drug policy, and more.
