A Good Portion of Missouri Gets Hyped When They Hear This Song!
You can’t help it. When certain songs come on they elicit a reaction. Some make you want to dance. Others force you to involuntarily air guitar or sing along regardless of how bad you sing. Some get wound up to Jock Jams, or “Seven Nation Army”, Metallica, AC/DC, Lil Jon or Eminem. The song for many in Missouri that gets them hyped is called “The King”!!! --or more precisely “Here Comes the King”.

With the Cardinals home opener happening in less than a week (Thursday Mar 27 vs the Twins), “Here Comes The King” will seem like it’s on a loop in St. Louis, and Cardinal fans will absorb it into their pores (the song -not the beer…….--okay probably the beer too.)
Written in 1971 by Steve Karmen, there are lyrics to “Here Comes the King”, and in St. Louis most can reflexively sing most of them without stopping to think about them (think prayers at mass). The jingle creates a perfect loop that could go on forever, but has been utilized at a slower pace to touch your heart in Budweiser holiday and Super Bowl ads.
I recall visiting Grants Farm with my boys years ago and the “Here Comes the King” instrumental was piped into the speakers on the sightseeing train/tram that winds through the grounds. By the time you’ve completed the circuit, you’re so hyped up you’re ready to ride a Clydesdale bareback…(!!!)
Listen carefully to the ringtones around you moving forward. Odds are the closer you get to St. Louis the more likely you are to hear “Here Comes the King” erupting from phones. Baseball is officially back on Thursday. The “King” is ready.
