A new study done by Storage Cafe shows that not one but five suburbs are considered the most affordable in the Land of Lincoln. They looked at the 100 best U.S. suburbs by home prices and budget-friendly options. Schaumburg takes the number one spot with plenty of entertainment, shopping, restaurants, and more to make this Illinois suburb stand out among the rest.

Schaumburg is the US’s most populous incorporated village and is also home to plenty of entertainment and dining options with 3.7 restaurants and 396 square feet of park space per 1,000 people. The office sector is thriving as well with almost 160 square feet of office and coworking space per capita.

Top 10 U.S. Suburbs

  • Decatur, GA
  • Lombard, IL
  • Skokie, IL
  • Fort Myers, FL
  • Bloomingdale, IL
  • Vernon Hills, IL
  • Hackensack, NJ
  • Woodbridge, NJ
  • Troy, MI

Depending on where you might be looking an average home will cost between $250,000 to $325,000 so not horrible but a little bit out of my price range. The thing about these suburbs is that they are all outside of the Chicagoland area. So, you get the city life and the suburban life (and cheaper than living in the city) many people are building new homes or moving out of the city and saving thousands of dollars.

I think I will just stay right where I am in Quincy and enjoy the quiet life (with access to the city life when I need it).
