I don't care what the calendar says... Opening Day. That's the first day of spring.

- Dale, The Crazies

Truer words were never spoken, and today is that glorious day. All day long my Facebook feed has been filled with glorious baseball posts. From Detroit Tiger fans bemoaning the rain-out to Cardinals fans to Cubs fans to Royals fans, even fans of the stupid San Francisco Giants are rejoicing in the return of the glorious game of baseball. I myself am awaiting tonight's return of the National League Champion Los Angeles Dodgers as they host the stupid Giants at home.

Unfortunately I have to cheer them from afar. Fortunately I have two teams I can cheer on right here in the Tri-States: The Quincy Gems and the brand new Hannibal Hoots! I'm excited to head out to the ballpark again. But when? When is Opening Day?

Prospect League action returns May 30th with Hannibal hosting the Danville Dans at Clemens Field, while Quincy is on the road facing the Springfield Sliders. Quincy won't host their home-opener until June 2nd when the Lafayette Aviators roll into Quincy Stadium. June 1st marks the first game between the Hoots and Gems down in Hannibal, while the first Quincy based game between the two is June 15th.

For a complete Quincy Gems schedule and more about the team, head to their website. Similarly, you can head to the Hannibal Hoots website for their complete schedule. We'll see you at the ballpark!
