Missouri Firefighters Dig Deep to Save Wiener Dog
We’ve all seen the memes, comic strips and heard the lines about local firefighters helping to get cats out of trees. While dogs don’t get up in trees too often, they can dig themselves into trouble.
Dachshunds LOVE to dig
In south central Missouri, in Douglas County local volunteer firefighters were called out not to put out a fire, but to save a dachshund that had managed to get itself stuck over the weekend.

Late Saturday night “Fedor” the dachshund was let out to do “his business”, but found an extra-curricular activity to embrace. Getting in a hole. Please know that dachshunds are bred to get into underground holes to flush out rabbits, badgers and other small animals. So, it’s 100% in their nature. When “Fedor’s” owner went looking for him, I’m pretty sure he could hear the dog barking. Dachshunds bark far beyond their diminutive stature. “Fedor” had gotten himself stuck underground in a small crevice between two rocks. Based on the pics it looks like a hole next to a foundation (or maybe that’s just an extra sized rock).

The owner and the firefighters were too big to follow “Fedor’s” steps to extract him so they had to come up with plan B. That plan was to dig a fifteen foot tunnel underneath where “Fedor” was stuck to get him out. It took a few hours, but around three in the morning the volunteer firefighters were able to remove the mini wiener dog from his tight spot. “Fedor” is fine, firefighters are fine, and they all lived happily ever after.
