Humane Society of Missouri Rescues 225 Animals from Hoarder
Hoarding is a problem. You may know someone, or are related to someone who can’t get rid of stuff, or keeps accumulating stuff and it piles up to unhealthy levels. Hoarding can be done with animals.
Over 200 dogs were found in severe neglect in a Christian County Missouri home
When she was growing up, my wife had a neighbor that had dozens of cats. This was in an era before hoarding of anything was labeled as such, much less animal hoarding. She was just the neighborhood “Cat lady”. But the total number of cats in the house bordered on chaos.

Today we see hoarding for what it is, a mental health condition associated with emotional distress, anxiety and depression that leads to isolation and issues handling responsibilities around the home.

Where this really becomes a compounded problem is when someone collects/hoards animals in their home. When my wife’s neighbor passed the amount of work that had to be done to salvage the cats, the home and the property was massive.
Humane Society in Missouri is currently evaluating all the rescued pets physical and mental well being
A home in Christian County Missouri contained over 200 small dogs in addition to cats, birds, and a rabbit. The Humane Society of Missouri was called in along with Sheriff’s Dept. to rescue the animals, who were transported to a facility in St. Louis for veterinary treatment and assessments on behavior.
Due to the large number of animals landing at the Macklind facility in St. Louis they are requesting donations of blankets, towels and more to help provide a solid base for the rescued. These animals will now get a second chance at becoming an integral part of a family. If you know of someone who has an issue with hoarding, especially animals reach out to the Humane Society of Missouri for help with the animal situation, and Hoarders.com for those who are have accumulated problematic amounts of stuff.
