The Most Important Soccer Matches could be coming to Missouri
The World Cup is coming to North America in 2026 and the USA will be hosting matches in cities across the country, and there is a strong push for matches to be held in the Show-Me State of Missouri.
The biggest soccer tournament in the World is the World Cup which is held every four years, this year (2022) it is being held in Qatar, but the next time it comes around in 2026 it will be held in North America, and matches will be split between host cities in Canada, the United States, and Mexico. So there are a lot of cities in the USA that are looking to host some of these mega soccer matches and Kansas City, Missouri could very well make the list.
According to a ranking from foxsports.com, Kansas City is considered a "Contender" city along with Boston, Denver, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Houston. The site says that there could be about 11 cities in the USA that could host a match and that there are some obvious choices the site calls "Locks" like Atlanta, Los Angeles, and New York City, along with 4 cities that fox sports say are "Likely" Dallas, Miami, San Fransisco, and Seattle.
So let us just say Fox Sports is right and the 7 cities in the Lock and Likely categories all get to host matches, that leaves 4 spots remaining between the 6 cities in the group Kansas City is in. Personally, Kansas City should be the favorite out of the "Contender" cities after Washington DC, Arrowhead in KC is a much cooler venue than what the other cities have to offer, and being in the middle of the country and away from the coasts offers viewers from around the world a different perspective on the US. Hopefully, the selection committee feels the way I do about KC.
