There is a donut shop in Illinois just a 15-minute drive from the Wisconsin border that takes the title of the Best Donut Shop in the Land of Lincoln.
According to the website thedonutwhole.com, the best donut shop in Illinois is barely in Illinois, it is a place called Gurnee Donuts in Gurnee, IL which is just 12 miles south of the Illinois and Wisconsin border. Gurnee Donuts beat out some legendary Illinois donut places like Country Donuts in Crystal Lake, and Donut Drop in Schaumburg to take the tiles of best in Illinois, what makes it deserving of the top spot? On the site they say...
"The menu covers everything from glazed to filled donuts, rings to crullers and Long Johns. There are traditional flavors like Bavarian cream, and new and innovative options like ube. Other popular options include red velvet, blueberry, and maple bacon. Some of the flavors are available only on weekends. And it’s a good idea to get there early – this is a popular spot, and they can sell out fast. The shop is open for takeout only every day except Monday. Opening hours are 6am to 2pm."

While I may be partial to Country Donuts because I grew up in Crystal Lake, the donuts at Gurnee Donuts must be phenomenal if they beat out Country Donuts. Also, this list leans heavily on suburban Chicago donut shops, there are terrific places in the small towns throughout the rest of the state like Yummy Donuts here in Quincy.
