According to the travel website called thegetaway.com, Lake of the Ozarks is the second best lake in the entire country for you to go boating on, behind only the legendary Shasta Lake in California, and ahead of lakes like Lake Texoma, Lake Tahoe, and Lake Michigan. If you have ever been to Lake of the Ozarks (like I have) then you know what makes it so special, but if you haven't the site says...

"With more than 1,150 miles of shoreline and a surface area of 55,000 acres, this lake in central Missouri in the Ozark Mountains is truly a boater’s paradise...there are also quiet coves perfect for fishing and enjoying a quiet day on the lake. Speedboating is a popular sport here, with major boating events, such as AquaPalooza..."

I hear a lot of people in the Tri-States of Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri complain that we are too far away from the ocean, and while yes that is true and it would be awesome to be closer to the ocean, We are close to 2 of the best lakes in the country with Lake of the Ozarks, and Lake Michigan (which came in at 12th on this list). And while yes oceans are fun, the salt water is annoying and there is nothing better than a day on the lake on a hot August day!

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.

Keep reading to see if your favorite beach town made the cut.
