Thanksgiving Eve Delivery Hits Record as Families Prep for Feast
Before you know it, the Thanksgiving holiday will be here, and the day before has long been known as prep day for the big feast. But in recent years, it’s also become one of the biggest days for food delivery services, which have seen a major spike in orders on Thanksgiving Eve.
Why Delivery Peaks on Thanksgiving Eve
In 2025, DoorDash reported one of its busiest food delivery days of the entire year, with nearly five million restaurant orders across the U.S. Thanksgiving Eve is quickly turning into one of DoorDash drivers’ busiest nights. After all, who really wants to cook the night before when you know you’ll be spending all day in the kitchen tomorrow?
What People Are Ordering: Top Foods & Items
So, what are the most popular foods being delivered? Surprisingly, it’s not pizza. While pizza does make the list, it sits near the bottom of the top ten food deliveries for 2024. Cheeseburgers take the top spot, followed by tacos, chicken sandwiches, chicken wings, and chicken nuggets.

Grocery-Delivery Surge: From Turkeys to Kitchen Tools
And it’s not just takeout that’s booming. Grocery delivery services have also seen a huge jump in Thanksgiving Eve orders. From grocery bags and measuring cups to vanilla extract and even whole turkeys, there was a 90% increase in grocery deliveries the night before Thanksgiving in 2024.
Anyone who’s cooked a full Thanksgiving meal knows how stressful it can be, and cooking the day before is rarely a priority. As food delivery services continue to grow in popularity, it’s safe to say these numbers will only keep climbing each year.

And even with the best-prepared shopping list, something always gets forgotten, so it’s nice to know delivery options exist, especially since many grocery stores will once again be closed on Thanksgiving Day.
