UPDATE: It's official. In a release on Friday, the Prospect League states that "The DuPage Drones (Lisle, Ill.) and Hannibal Cavemen (Hannibal, Mo.) franchises have elected to suspend operations for the 2017 season. Both franchises are expected to resume operations and begin playing again starting with the 2018 season at locations to be determined."
There will be no post-season berths at stake, but the Hannibal Cavemen and Quincy Gems will square off at QU Stadium to close out the 2015 Prospect League season Thursday, playing for pride and continuing the "Battle for the Paddle."
All the Hannibal Cavemen runs were unearned Sunday night as they knocked off the Chillicothe Paints 5-2 in an inter-divisional match-up at Clemens Field.
For the sixth consecutive season, the Hannibal Cavemen's Prospect League baseball action can be heard online at KHMORadio.com. All 30 of the Cavemen home games will be broadcast.
This summer's weather has been unusual in Hannibal. Above average rainfall, very mild temperatures, extremely hot temperatures ... the city's nearly seen it all over the past couple months. Because of excessive rain and even some flash flooding, the Hannibal Cavemen have worked extra hard to keep the field in playing condition, and the ballpark open to the public.
The Hannibal Cavemen and Quincy Gems hooked up in an old-fashioned pitcher’s duel Friday night, and it was the Gems that held on for a 1-0 win at QU Stadium.
