While growing up many people attended summer camp. Traditionally summer camp was an away from civilization location and a time to employ applied knowledge. In the 21st century summer camps can have much more pointed focus. Space camp, science camp, or even zoo camp.

Illinois is blessed to offer summer camps at various zoos across the state. Each with their own style and approach. Some of these have already begun. Some continue (depending upon age range) for several weeks still this year.

Niabi Zoo (Coal City, Il.)  Spilt up between 4-5 year olds up to 10-13 year olds this summer, sessions will focus on birds, herds, packs and conservation. Groups start weekly through June and July.

Peoria Zoo (Peoria, Il) The Zoovivor from kindergarten and 1st grade through 6th 7th and 8th grade. Depending on age group camps will last half day or full day.

Henson-Robinson Zoo (Springfield, Il.) Including half day groups from preschool, 7-9 yrs, 10-12 yrs and even special needs groups, taking a deeper look into the animal kingdom on zoo grounds.

Brookfield Zoo (Chicago) Full and Half day options from 4 to 14 years old. This summers zoo camp at Brookfield is fully booked, but you can get on the list for upcoming camps. Scholarships are available.
