Friday night in Moberly, at Spartan Stadium, old foes clash one more time: the Spartans host the Hannibal Pirates. Hannibal comes in on a five-game winning streak, and is still ranked number five in Missouri Class 4.  Moberly has won their last two, and is 2-4. Last year Moberly won 12-0, and the Spartans have taken 2 of the last 5 against Hannibal.

During their five-game winning streak the Pirates are averaging 49 points per game.  Over its consecutive victories entering this game, Moberly is allowing just 10 points per game. Can one team bend the other to its will and shift momentum?

The Pirates have seen Darrion Washington elevate his game the last few weeks, and look for that success to continue against the Spartans. Kade Hoskins and Tre Hoskins remain factors on both sides of the ball, with Wyeth Dorsey leading the way under center. The Pirate defense continues to show the ability to remain stingy throughout the game. Sometimes seeming to get stronger the deeper into the game things get.

Moberly will lean on Ka’von Tiger out of the backfield. Tiger has been a stalwart in recent times for the Spartans, whether running the ball or receiving it, he can make things happen -- and has offers from some schools (including Quincy University) to play at the next level. Bottling Tiger up will be job No.1 for Hannibal. The Spartan quarterback is junior Drew Smothers, who isn’t big, but can scramble and isn’t afraid to let it fly. Pregame at 6:30 p.m.; and the kickoff is at 7 p.m. on 97.9 KICK-FM.
