Hannibal Pirates Face Pre-District Test Against Ft. Zumwalt West

The Hannibal Pirates have successfully navigated through conference play. They have a solid grasp on the number one seed in district play, and head coach Mark Gschwender’s plan to be tested before playoff football starts comes into focus against Missouri Class 6 school Ft. Zumwalt West.

Ft. Zumwalt West High School - O'Fallon, Mo.

The Pirates travel to O’Fallon, Mo. to play the 5-3 Jaguars. Ft. Zumwalt West is on a three-game winning streak and have some legitimately skilled players, are led by a good group of seniors and a defense that has allowed one touchdown or less during the winning streak. The one similar opponent for both teams is Troy-Buchanan. Both schools beat the Trojans. Hannibal has defeated Ft. Zumwalt West the last two times they have played.

The focus of the Pirates' defense will be on senior wide out Garrick Dixon who’ll be playing next fall for Kansas State. He can score anytime he gets the ball. Senior quarterback Clayton O’Bryan will be looking to get Dixon the ball, while senior tailback Dom Lawrence can be a problem if you are too pre-occupied with Dixon. The Jaguars have a balanced attack and will throw more than run.

Kade Hoskins - Hannibal Pirates

On offense the Pirates one-two punch of Kade Hoskins and Darrion Washington create problems for most teams. The Jaguars are pretty big on the defensive line with senior end Ben Maskell. Seniors on defense, Ethan Kidd, Jon Hauser and junior Chase Dixon are all active and have a nose for the ball carrier.  A solid test awaits the Pirates, Friday night.
