The Quincy Police Department is reminding everyone to be extra careful this Halloween.

With Halloween falling on a Friday night and no rain in the forecast, you can expect to see more trick-or-treaters out and about. The Quincy Police Department wants everyone to have a fun and safe Halloween and has shared a few reminders and safety tips for both drivers and trick-or-treaters.

Be Visible: Use Glow Sticks or Flashlights

The biggest tip: be visible and stay together. With some costumes being all black or dark-colored, it’s important to carry glow sticks or a flashlight so drivers can easily see you. Kids should always stay with their group, and parents should walk with their younger children for safety.

Drivers Urged to Use Extra Caution

Parents and children should stay alert and aware of their surroundings. Kids are often excited about getting treats and might forget to watch for traffic. Drivers, please take extra precautions when driving through busy neighborhoods filled with trick-or-treaters. Slow down, stay alert, and scan the road carefully.

Check Candy Before Eating

Once the trick-or-treating fun is over, be sure to check all the candy before kids dig in. It’s best to remind children not to eat any treats until they’re home and everything has been inspected. I remember that was a big rule when I was a kid, and I’ve passed it on to my girls as well.
