Quincy Police Chief Rob Copley says a vehicle impound ordinance would help put more police officers on the streets. Copley tells the city council finance committee such an ordinance would help his department recoup around $130,000 a year in investigation costs. That money would go to the department general fund which would help offset the cost of hiring two police officers.

Mayor Kyle Moore had previously asked Chief Copley to come up with ways to improve the department’s budget and recoup costs. Under the proposed ordinance, the City of Quincy could impound vehicles involved in DUI, driving while revoked and felony drug cases.
