Throwback Video Shows Six Flags St. Louis in the 1970s
You might have been alive when Six Flags St. Louis opened in the 70s, but thankfully there is video out that will bring you back to when the theme park opened.
Get ready to step into the time machine and let's travel back to 1971.

Out of 13 possible locations to build a new park, it was decided that St. Louis would be the home of the new Six Flags Over Mid-America Theme Park. This was only the third theme park to open for Six Flags.

Opening on June 5, 1971, the new theme park (in Eureka, Missouri) was built on 500 acres of land and has since added to that acreage since its opening.
Original Rides of Six Flags
Some of the original rides at the park (which at least one is still in operation) included the River King Runaway Mine Train, the Log Flume, the Moon Antique Car Ride, the Super Sports Car Ride, The Sky-Way rRde (removed in 1978 after a deadly accident), and Screaming Eagle (opened in 1976 and at the time was known as the world's largest roller coaster). The Screaming Eagle is the last of the three original coasters at Six Flags St. Louis.
It's so fun looking back and seeing what the park looked like when it first opened. When the park turned 40, it released footage to visitors and rides, and it's kind of cool to look in the background and see if you recognize anything.
