If there’s one food you can’t go wrong with, it’s a sandwich. You can have it any way you like, loaded with meat, drenched in mayo, or slathered with PB&J. However, when a new list from Far & Wide ranked the top sandwich in every state, it had me scratching my head.

It’s hard to pick the best of the best when it comes to food. Everyone has different taste buds, and saying that one thing is better than another is a tough job. Although I’ll admit, getting to eat all around the state sounds pretty fun.

With all that said, Far & Wide accepted the challenge. They picked what they believe is the best sandwich in the entire Show-Me State, and their choice might surprise you. According to them, the best sandwich to get in Missouri is called The Gerber. You can find this classic sandwich at a few delis in St. Louis, including Ruma’s Deli and Gioia’s.

This sandwich doesn’t have all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a “best of” sandwich. Nope, it’s as simple as they come. It’s a St. Louis–invented sandwich served open-faced on toasted bread with garlic butter, ham, and Provel cheese piled on top.

Just so you guys know, I’m out on this one because of the cheese, especially the Provel. For those of us who didn’t grow up in St. Louis, it’s hard to think of Provel as a good cheese, but for many, it’s considered a gift from above. I’ll stick with my mozzarella-only status, and as much as I think this is a good sandwich, that’s a no for me, dog.
