This Missouri School District Named Worst in the Show-Me State
As we gear up for back to school with registration and shopping there is one school district in Missouri that is getting some attention but not for anything good.
Before I let you know which school district is the worst in Missouri, there is some good news. It's not located in the Tri-Sttaets. Whether your child goes to a big school or small you can take some comfort in knowing that your child's school district is not the worst in the state.
Where is the Worst School District in Missouri?
247Wallst ranked the worst school districts in each state and the Hayti R-II School District in Pemiscot County was the worst in the state. The student-to-teacher ratio is 13:1 (which is the state recommendation) and the child poverty rate is 43.8%.
Hayti R-II is a small school district of fewer than 700 students in Missouri’s southeastern corner. According to state standardized test scores, just 22% of students in the district are proficient in reading, and only 12% are proficient in math. According to school district review site Niche, the district lags in important measures indicative of academic quality and preparing students for college.
There were several factors that these experts looked at in determining which school districts made this list. Using data to measure children's poverty rate, the teacher-to-student ratio, per-pupil spending on education, and the share of adults with a college education.
We can all take some comfort in knowing that if you have a child attending a Missouri school in the Tri-States they are getting the best education possible. Teaching is NOT an easy job so a big shout out to all of the amazing teachers in the Tri-States and good luck with the upcoming school year.
